No. 1741 By: Harris 1-8 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-9 AN ACT 1-10 relating to removal of the disabilities of minority. 1-11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-12 SECTION 1. Section 31.005, Family Code, is amended to read 1-13 as follows: 1-14 Sec. 31.005. ORDER. The court by order, or the Texas 1-15 Supreme Court by rule or order, may remove the disabilities of 1-16 minority of a minor, including any restriction imposed by Chapter 1-17 32, if the court or the Texas Supreme Court finds the removal to be 1-18 in the best interest of the petitioner. The order or rule must 1-19 state the limited or general purposes for which disabilities are 1-20 removed. 1-21 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-22 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-24 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-25 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-26 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended. 1-27 * * * * *
