                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                       AN ACT
 1-1     relating to garnishment of an account.
 1-2           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-3           SECTION 1.  Chapter 63, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, is
 1-4     amended by adding Section 63.007 to read as follows:
 1-5           Sec. 63.007.  GARNISHMENT OF ACCOUNT.  In an action in which
 1-6     the garnishee is a bank, savings and loan association, credit
 1-7     union, or securities brokerage firm, the amount of any judgment
 1-8     entered against the garnishee shall not exceed the total value of
 1-9     the assets located in the account on the date of service, together
1-10     with any amounts added to the account through the date of the
1-11     judgment.
1-12           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1999.
1-13           SECTION 3.  The crowded condition of the calendars in both
1-14     houses create an emergency and an imperative public necessity that
1-15     the constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-16     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-17     and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-18     passage, and it is so enacted.
