By Barrientos S.B. No. 1760 76R7402 GCH-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to a pay raise for state employees. 1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-4 SECTION 1. Except as provided by Section 2 of this Act, each 1-5 full-time employee of a state agency is entitled to an increase in 1-6 the employee's gross salary of $200 a month for each month of the 1-7 state fiscal year beginning September 1, 1999, and an increase of 1-8 an additional $200 a month for each month of the state fiscal year 1-9 beginning September 1, 2000. 1-10 SECTION 2. (a) This Act does not apply to a member of the 1-11 legislature, a member of the faculty of an institution of higher 1-12 education as defined by Section 61.003, Education Code, or a member 1-13 of a board, commission, or other governing body of a state agency 1-14 who may receive a per diem or expense reimbursement but not a 1-15 salary for full-time employment. 1-16 (b) A person employed as a part-time employee of a state 1-17 agency is entitled to an increase in the employee's gross salary 1-18 for the state fiscal biennium beginning September 1, 1999, in an 1-19 amount that is proportional to the ratio between the number of 1-20 hours the employee works and the number of hours required of a 1-21 full-time employee. 1-22 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1999. 1-23 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the 1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-1 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-2 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-3 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
