                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
                                       AN ACT
 1-1     relating to the commissioning of peace officers at the Texas School
 1-2     for the Deaf.
 1-3           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-4           SECTION 1.  Section 30.052, Education Code, is amended by
 1-5     adding Subsection (l) to read as follows:
 1-6           (l)  The governing board of the Texas School for the Deaf may
 1-7     employ security personnel and may commission peace officers in the
 1-8     same manner as a board of trustees of a school district under
 1-9     Section 37.081.
1-10           SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect August 31, 1999.
1-11           SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
1-12     crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-13     emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-14     constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-15     days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
