No. 16 By: Lucio 1-8 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-9 WHEREAS, One of the Lone Star State's greatest assets is a 1-10 rich musical tradition, and so it is with great pleasure that we 1-11 designate Lubbock and West Texas as the "Music Crossroads of 1-12 Texas"; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Texans enjoy a diverse musical heritage, and the 1-14 citizens of Lubbock and of West Texas have made significant 1-15 contributions to this cultural melange, playing an important role 1-16 in supporting local musicians and fostering the growth of the music 1-17 industry; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Music keeps the human spirit vital and also helps 1-19 record the history and culture of a group; Texas has been blessed 1-20 with many talented artists, including those from Lubbock and West 1-21 Texas, who help the state's citizens get in touch with their roots 1-22 and share the passions of Texans with the rest of the nation; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The roster of West Texas musicians is impressive and 1-24 includes such accomplished artists as Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Don 1-25 Williams, Butch Hancock, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Tanya Tucker, 1-26 Joe Ely, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, Billy Walker, The 1-27 Maines Brothers Band, Sonny Curtis, Darren Norwood, Ronna Reeves, 1-28 Andy Wilkinson, Johnny Ray Watson, Mac Davis, Bob Wills, Guy Clark, 1-29 Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Dean, the Crickets, Larry Gatlin and the 1-30 Gatlin Brothers, Terry Allen, Pat Green, and many others; and 1-31 WHEREAS, These notable artists have provided listeners with 1-32 countless hours of entertainment, contributing to the soundtracks 1-33 of our lives, and it is fitting that we not only recognize the 1-34 wealth of musical talent that has sprung from this region of our 1-35 state, but that we finally formalize the reputation that has long 1-36 been associated with the cultural landscape of West Texas; now, 1-37 therefore, be it 1-38 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-39 hereby designate Lubbock and West Texas as the "Music Crossroads of 1-40 Texas," and that the residents and musicians of these communities 1-41 be congratulated on their remarkable history and extended sincere 1-42 best wishes for continued musical achievements. 1-43 * * * * *
