No. 34 1-2 (In the Senate - Filed February 23, 1999; February 24, 1999, 1-3 read first time and referred to Committee on Veteran Affairs and 1-4 Military Installations; March 4, 1999, reported favorably, as 1-5 amended, by the following vote: Yeas 5, Nays 0; March 4, 1999, 1-6 sent to printer.) 1-7 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1 By: Fraser 1-8 Amend Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 34 as follows: 1-9 (1) On line 27, strike "Organization" and replace with 1-10 "Association". 1-11 (2) On line 36, strike "Organization" and replace with 1-12 "Association". 1-13 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-14 WHEREAS, The brave men and women who proudly served in the 1-15 Korean War are deserving of our utmost respect and should be held 1-16 in the highest regard for the sacrifices they made for the cause of 1-17 freedom; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The Korean War was a significant historical event in 1-19 which many Americans gave their lives in the struggle to prevent 1-20 the spread of communism throughout Asia, yet this important war 1-21 suffers from a misconception that it was a conflict, when it was 1-22 indeed a war; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The issue of educating the public that the Korean 1-24 War was indeed a war and not simply a conflict, and Korean War 1-25 veterans are indeed veterans and not simply Korean War 1-26 participants, was approved by the Texas Lone Star Chapter of the 1-27 Korean War Veterans Organization and later endorsed by the Texas 1-28 Coalition of Veterans Organizations; and 1-29 WHEREAS, It is vital that the Texas Legislature help to 1-30 enlighten the populace to the correct nomenclature pertaining to 1-31 the Korean War and its veterans so that the public will give these 1-32 courageous soldiers who sacrificed so much the recognition they 1-33 have so rightly earned; now, therefore, be it 1-34 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-35 hereby respectfully support the efforts of the Texas Lone Star 1-36 Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Organization in its public 1-37 education efforts regarding the Korean War. 1-38 * * * * *
