                            SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 1-1           WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins the
 1-2     citizens of Hopkins County and residents of Fort Worth in mourning
 1-3     the loss of Ida Nance Studer, who died Friday, December 25, 1998,
 1-4     at the age of 90; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, A native of Hopkins County, Ida Nance was born in
 1-6     Peerless on November 25, 1908; she was one of 11 children born to
 1-7     Newton Edward and Minnie Tatum Nance; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Ida grew up on her parents' farm and helped with
 1-9     farming chores throughout her early life, picking cotton and
1-10     harvesting other crops; she married Dewitt Roy Studer, and the
1-11     couple was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Dorothy Nell
1-12     in 1933; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Ida was dedicated to her work on the couple's dairy
1-14     farm until she and her husband moved to Fort Worth in 1949; she
1-15     then worked in the food industry as a cook and baker until retiring
1-16     in 1970; her husband preceded her in death in 1992, after a loving
1-17     marriage of more than 50 years; and
1-18           WHEREAS, An exemplary lady with an engaging personality, Ida
1-19     Studer was respected and beloved by all who knew her; she was
1-20     devoted to her family and to her work as a homemaker, and her
1-21     loyalty to her family and friends was boundless; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Known for her hospitable and friendly nature, Ida
1-23     Studer was a source of strength to many and a matriarchal figure
1-24     who provided the quintessential support and protection to those who
 2-1     were close to her; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, In later life, Ida's valor in the face of her
 2-3     infirmities was an inspiration to others, and she continued to
 2-4     enjoy life with optimism and enthusiasm and to pursue her
 2-5     interests, such as sewing, cooking, and gardening; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, A woman of compassion, integrity, strength, and
 2-7     generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her
 2-8     wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those
 2-9     who knew her; and
2-10           WHEREAS, Ida Studer was a devoted wife, mother, and
2-11     grandmother who lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves
2-12     behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
2-13     many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-14           RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-15     hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Ida
2-16     Nance Studer:  her daughter, Dorothy Nell Hughes; her sisters, Mrs.
2-17     J. C. Fisher, Gladine Basham, and Nadine Thomas; her grandchildren,
2-18     Billy Randell Pewitt, Susan Haywood, Abby Slayton, and Teresa
2-19     Conkel; her great-grandchildren, Summer Smith, Will Pewitt, Jack
2-20     Pewitt, and Benjamin Conkel; and her nieces and nephews; and, be it
2-21     further
2-22           RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the
2-23     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-24     Texas Legislature, and that when the legislature adjourns this day,
2-25     it do so in memory of Ida Nance Studer.
