No. 62 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Wednesday, April 7, 1999, has been selected by the 1-2 citizens of Hood County as a special day to gather at the State 1-3 Capitol to recognize and celebrate the contributions of Hood County 1-4 to the heritage of the State of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Organized in 1866, Hood County was named for 1-6 Confederate General John B. Hood; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Granbury Opera House, built in the 1880s, is 1-8 restored and is now the centerpiece of Granbury's historic district 1-9 which includes historic homes and fine antique shops; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Granbury, the county seat of Hood County, also is 1-11 known for its celebrations and festivals and as home to the Dora 1-12 Lee Langdon Cultural and Education Center of Tarleton State 1-13 University; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Hood County, crossed by the Paluxy and Brazos 1-15 rivers, is home to Lake Granbury, a scenic site for fishing, 1-16 picnicking, and water sports; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Hood County is noted for its agribusiness, including 1-18 production of hay, peanuts, and pecans; the area is noted for its 1-19 rolling grasslands, sandy soil, and majestic pecan trees; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Hood County is justifiably proud of its history, 1-21 culture, progressive development, and contributions to the heritage 1-22 of the State of Texas; and 1-23 WHEREAS, This special day is an appropriate occasion for the 1-24 Texas Legislature to recognize the citizens of Hood County and to 2-1 commend them for their notable endeavors and achievements; now, 2-2 therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-4 hereby declare April 7, 1999, as Hood County Day at the Capitol and 2-5 join Hood County residents as they celebrate their county's 2-6 greatness; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the 2-8 citizens of Hood County as an expression of the recognition and 2-9 appreciation of the Texas Legislature.
