No. 69 99S1198/1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is grateful 1-2 for the service and sacrifice of the men and women who provide for 1-3 the protection and safety of the citizens of this great state; and 1-4 WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper to honor those law 1-5 enforcement and corrections officers who died in the performance of 1-6 their duty; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The 71st Legislature, in Senate Bill 892, authorized 1-8 the establishment of the Texas Peace Officers' Memorial to 1-9 commemorate the lives and careers of those men and women who died 1-10 in their service to the public; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Commission on Law Enforcement, with assistance 1-12 of the Peace Officers' Memorial Advisory Committee, was given the 1-13 responsibility to design, fund, and construct this memorial; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The efforts and contributions of many people and 1-15 organizations throughout the State of Texas resulted in an 1-16 appropriate design and location for the memorial and sufficient 1-17 funds to construct the memorial; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The State Preservation Board, in cooperation and 1-19 partnership with the Commission on Law Enforcement, constructed the 1-20 memorial at the base of the West Wall of the Sam Houston Building 1-21 on the Capitol grounds; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The names of 586 officers will be dedicated and 1-23 memorialized on May 10, 1999; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby gratefully acknowledge the contribution and sacrifices of 2-2 the 586 officers memorialized on the Texas Peace Officers' Memorial 2-3 and all those who serve the public's safety; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the 2-5 surviving family members and departments as a testament of deep 2-6 sorrow for the loss of their loved ones and partners and as an 2-7 expression of sincere appreciation and high esteem from the Texas 2-8 Legislature.
