SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow that the Legislature of the
1-2 State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin in mourning the sudden
1-3 loss of Kevin Phillip Roberts, who died April 27, 1999, at the age
1-4 of 31; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Kevin realized his lifelong dream of becoming a
1-6 commercial pilot, and his life came to a tragic end while he was
1-7 doing what he loved most; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Born in Austin on July 2, 1967, Kevin attended Texas
1-9 A&M University on a four-year academic scholarship and graduated in
1-10 1989 with a bachelor's degree in business administration; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Kevin achieved a great deal in his short life: he
1-12 was the leader of the Dukes Jazz Ensemble of Aggieland, a member of
1-13 the Organization of Black Airline Pilots and Alpha Kappa Alpha
1-14 fraternity, and an accomplished saxophonist; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Kevin was the first African American drum major in
1-16 the history of the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band at Texas A&M
1-17 University; being selected as the Infantry Band drum major was a
1-18 tribute to his talent and his spirit, a tribute for which he felt
1-19 truly honored; and
1-20 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Kevin's inner strength and faith
1-21 enabled him to be a source of positive support and encouragement
1-22 for those who knew him; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Although his time on earth was short, Kevin's
1-24 ability to savor life and develop his many talents filled his life
2-1 with enjoyment and leaves his family and friends many memories that
2-2 will be treasured forever; now, therefore, be it
2-3 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-4 hereby extend heartfelt sympathy to the family of Kevin Phillip
2-5 Roberts: his parents, Leon and Patricia; his sister and
2-6 brother-in-law, Kimberly and Stacy Parish; his niece, Ashli; his
2-7 grandparents; and his many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins; and,
2-8 be it further
2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for
2-10 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-11 Texas Legislature, and that when the legislature adjourns this day,
2-12 it do so in memory of Kevin Phillip Roberts.
