SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION
1-1 proposing a constitutional amendment relating to the creation of a
1-2 judicial compensation commission.
1-3 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Article V, Texas Constitution, is amended by
1-5 adding Section 32 to read as follows:
1-6 Sec. 32. (a) Notwithstanding any other provisions of this
1-7 constitution, the Legislature may by law create a judicial
1-8 compensation commission to make recommendations for judicial
1-9 salaries that become law if neither the Senate nor the House of
1-10 Representatives, by majority vote, rejects the recommendations.
1-11 (b) Subsection (a) of this section applies only to salaries
1-12 for justices and judges of the Supreme Court, the Court of Criminal
1-13 Appeals, the Courts of Appeals, and the District Courts.
1-14 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be
1-15 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1999.
1-16 The ballot shall be printed to provide for voting for or against
1-17 the proposition: "The constitutional amendment authorizing the
1-18 legislature to create a judicial compensation commission."
