No. 36 By: Moncrief 1-7 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 1-8 proposing a constitutional amendment to authorize an exemption or 1-9 other relief from ad valorem taxation for commercial tangible 1-10 personal property if the property is voluntarily rendered for 1-11 taxation. 1-12 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-13 SECTION 1. Section 1, Article VIII, Texas Constitution, is 1-14 amended by adding Subsection (j) to read as follows: 1-15 (j) The Legislature may exempt from ad valorem taxation 1-16 $10,000 or a lesser amount of the market value of tangible personal 1-17 property held or used for the production of income or provide other 1-18 tax relief if the property is voluntarily rendered for taxation. 1-19 SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be 1-20 submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 2, 1999. 1-21 The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the 1-22 proposition: "The constitutional amendment to authorize ad valorem 1-23 tax incentives to encourage the voluntary rendition of commercial 1-24 tangible personal property for taxation." 1-25 * * * * *
