1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 join the citizens of Denton County as they joyously celebrate 1-4 Denton County Day at the State Capitol; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Named for pioneer lawyer and minister 1-6 John B. Denton, Denton County was created in 1846 from the 1-7 original Peters Colony Grant by the first Texas Legislature; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, The population of Denton County has increased 31 1-10 percent since the 1990 census; it is one of the fastest growing 1-11 counties in the nation with a population of 358,375; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Denton County is located at the apex of the 1-13 North Texas region and serves as the gateway to the 1-14 Dallas-Fort Worth area; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The fourth largest university in the state, 1-16 the University of North Texas, is located in Denton County; 1-17 it is also the home of Texas Woman's University and 1-18 North Central Texas College; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Denton County's 11 public school districts 1-20 educate more than 57,000 students at 93 facilities; and 1-21 WHEREAS, It is one of the largest regions for horse 1-22 breeding and training in the southwestern United States and 1-23 has a large number of corporate residents, including Boeing, 1-24 Federal Express, and Intel; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Denton County has been bringing more than 2-2 200 residents to Austin each year since 1987 to honor the 2-3 Texas Legislature; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The varied accomplishments and achievements of 2-5 Denton County and its citizens are truly worthy of legislative 2-6 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 76th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the citizens 2-9 of Denton County for a most memorable celebration of 2-10 Denton County Day; and, be it further 2-11 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-12 Denton County as a memento of this grand occasion. 2-13 Nelson 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on January 13, 1999. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
