1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-3     recognize Leadership Southwest for its excellent contributions
 1-4     to southern Dallas County; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Our nation and form of governance rely upon its
 1-6     citizens to enhance the fabric of democracy by becoming involved
 1-7     in the life around them through volunteerism and pro bono public
 1-8     service; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The purpose of the Leadership Southwest program is
1-10     to provide knowledge and opportunities for community involvement
1-11     to tomorrow's leaders; working in conjunction with Cedar Hill,
1-12     DeSoto, Duncanville, Lancaster, and Oak Cliff Chambers of Commerce,
1-13     Leadership Southwest has served the area for the past 14 years; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Participants in the Leadership Southwest program
1-15     are exposed to the most critical community issues, including
1-16     education, economic development, health and human services, the
1-17     justice system, state government, local government, quality of
1-18     life, the arts, and volunteerism; participants receive hands-on
1-19     experience relating to each topic; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The participants represent a cross section of each
1-21     community, and this year's class is composed of 38 students who
1-22     seek to learn more about the issues and how to give more to their
1-23     community; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Graduates of Leadership Southwest provide a rich
 2-1     pool of leaders for today as well as for the future of their
 2-2     communities; typically, graduates become an integral part of
 2-3     the civic, business, and professional communities by serving
 2-4     on local boards and commissions; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, The Leadership Southwest program benefits southern
 2-6     Dallas County by assuring its future; by developing the leadership
 2-7     skills of its participants, the program provides them with the
 2-8     opportunity to make significant contributions to the future of
 2-9     Dallas, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, Duncanville, Lancaster and beyond;
2-10     now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Leadership Southwest
2-13     program for its notable and visionary work in providing for
2-14     the future of southern Dallas County; and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
2-16     for Leadership Southwest as an expression of esteem from the
2-17     Texas Senate.
