 1-2                                  In Memory
 1-3                                     of
 1-4                                 Alma Rucker
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the family and friends of
 1-6     Mrs. Alma Rucker in mourning her death on January 4, 1999, at the
 1-7     age of 100; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Born on December 15, 1898, in Cuero, Texas, Alma
 1-9     was one of seven children born to Annie and Phillip Smith; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Alma Smith married Alvin Rucker in 1916; the loving
1-11     couple had 14 children; and
1-12           WHEREAS, This lady had grace and style; she taught her family
1-13     strength of character and imparted a high standard of values to the
1-14     members of her household; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Seven of her children and her husband predeceased
1-16     her; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Noted for her sympathetic manner and sweet smile,
1-18     Alma Rucker established a permanent place for herself in the hearts
1-19     of all who knew her; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Her warmth, helpfulness, and benevolence of spirit
1-21     brought a sense of well-being to those around her; and
1-22           WHEREAS, A respected and beloved member of her community,
1-23     Mrs. Rucker will be remembered for her devotion to her family and
1-24     her friends; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, An exemplary woman, Alma Rucker was forthright
 2-2     and generous, and her memory continues to live through her family
 2-3     members and her many friends; now, therefore, be it
 2-4           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-5     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
 2-6     of her family:  her children, Dudley Rucker, Mattie L. Jones,
 2-7     Eugene Rucker, Kathleen Davis, Doris C. Blackwell,
 2-8     Bessie M. Buckner, and Addie L. Love; and her 35 grandchildren,
 2-9     67 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and,
2-10     be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-12     the family of Alma Rucker as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-13     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
2-14     day, it do so in memory of Alma Rucker.
