1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 22
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
 1-3     and proud to recognize Jane Bingham, National President of
 1-4     the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the
 1-5     United States, and to welcome her to the Lone Star State; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A resident of Vermont, Mrs. Bingham was elected
 1-7     to her present position in September, 1998, at the 85th National
 1-8     Convention for the 1998-1999 year; the organization she
 1-9     represents has 727,921 members; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Founded in 1914, the auxiliary is dedicated to
1-11     service to veterans and the community; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Using as her theme "Volunteerism--The Ultimate
1-13     Gift," Jane Bingham emphasized that during her term of office,
1-14     she will be encouraging members to raise $3 million for the
1-15     Auxiliary Cancer Aid and Research Fund for the 11th year in a
1-16     row; she wants to raise more money this year than ever before;
1-17     and
1-18           WHEREAS, Her group contributes millions of hours of
1-19     volunteer work yearly to our country's hospitals, to donating
1-20     goods and services to the homeless, and to providing scholarships
1-21     for students; and
1-22           WHEREAS, In preparation for her current role as president,
1-23     Jane Bingham has held five national offices; she was Junior Girls
1-24     Unit Director, Publicity Director, Cancer Aid and Research
 2-1     Director, and National Chairman for the Eastern Conference on
 2-2     the Legislative, Rehabilitation, and Publicity programs; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Mrs. Bingham is a Life Member of Addison County
 2-4     Auxiliary Number 7823 and has represented her organization
 2-5     on a European tour; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, The mother of two sons who are Vietnam veterans and
 2-7     one daughter, she recently retired from her work as Executive
 2-8     Secretary to the Vice President of Administration for Middlebury
 2-9     College, and she is the loving grandmother of 10 grandchildren;
2-10     now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Jane Bingham on her
2-13     selection as the new National President of the Ladies Auxiliary
2-14     to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and hope
2-15     that her visit to the State of Texas is an enjoyable one; and,
2-16     be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-18     her as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate.
