1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great 1-3 pride in recognizing Officer Charles G. Cheek of the Irving 1-4 Police Department, who is retiring from the department after 1-5 28 years of superlative service; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Officer Cheek joined the Irving Police Department 1-7 on January 4, 1971, and he retires on January 31, 1999; before 1-8 that, he worked as a Highway Patrolman with the Texas Department 1-9 of Public Safety from 1967 to 1971; and 1-10 WHEREAS, An experienced investigator, Officer Cheek has 1-11 been a member of the original Tactical Team; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Beginning his period of duty with the Irving 1-13 Police Department in the Patrol Division, he worked in the 1-14 Technical Services Division and next was transferred to the 1-15 Criminal Investigation Division, where he continued to work 1-16 for 20 years; and 1-17 WHEREAS, This distinguished officer has repeatedly 1-18 worked with major crime cases, handled heavy case loads 1-19 without complaint, accepted any assignment, and provided 1-20 excellent courtroom testimony; and 1-21 WHEREAS, During his tenure as a patrolman, 1-22 Officer Charles Cheek has received 41 commendations; some 1-23 of the commendations include one from the Abilene Police 1-24 Department for clearing a missing persons case and one from 2-1 a bank president expressing his gratitude for help in 2-2 apprehending a bank robber; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Officer Cheek has also been lauded by the Irving 2-4 Chief of Police for clearing many robbery offenses; the kind 2-5 officer has helped with a Christmas party for needy people in 2-6 Irving and has helped locate an eight-year-old boy who is deaf 2-7 and has a speech problem; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Officer Cheek has been praised for his courage 2-9 and professional approach; he was honored with a Certificate 2-10 of Merit for his efforts with three notable cases in which he 2-11 worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and local 2-12 police departments; and 2-13 WHEREAS, His honesty and his faithfulness to his duties are 2-14 well known throughout the Irving area; the citizens of Irving 2-15 have been truly blessed to have had such an able and hardworking 2-16 public servant as Officer Charles G. Cheek for the last 28 years; 2-17 now, therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-19 76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Officer Charles G.
