1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
 1-3     recognizing Dr. David Vanderpool, the 1999 winner of the Max Cole
 1-4     Leadership Award for his involvement with and leadership of the
 1-5     Dallas County Medical Society; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, This coveted award is named in honor of
 1-7     Dr. Charles Max Cole, an outstanding physician and former
 1-8     president of the Dallas County Medical Society; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, A graduate of Abilene Christian College and
1-10     The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas,
1-11     Dr. Vanderpool met Marjorie Louise Martin in Dallas and they
1-12     married in 1955; he graduated from medical school in 1956; and
1-13           WHEREAS, With a desire to repay the field of medicine for
1-14     his education and experience, Dr. Vanderpool joined the Dallas
1-15     County Medical Society in 1958 and soon began his contributions
1-16     to the field; he was president of the Texas Medical Association
1-17     in 1987, chaired the Dallas County Medical Society Mediations
1-18     Committee, the Board of Censors, and the United Way campaign
1-19     and was president of the Dallas Society in 1983; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Now a Texas Medical Association delegate to the
1-21     American Medical Association, Dr. Vanderpool has filled that
1-22     role since 1994; and
1-23           WHEREAS, A diplomate of the American Board of Surgery,
1-24     he is also a member of the Dallas Society of General Surgeons
 2-1     and the Southwestern Surgical Congress, and he is president of
 2-2     the American Society of General Surgeons; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, he has served on
 2-4     the City of Dallas Board of Urban Rehabilitation in addition
 2-5     to being on the Board of Trustees of the Christian College of
 2-6     the Southwest; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, Honored by Abilene Christian University as its
 2-8     outstanding alumnus in 1988, Dr. Vanderpool was awarded an honorary
 2-9     doctorate of letters; he is dedicated to supporting and improving
2-10     organized medicine; he wants to see it continue to be a viable
2-11     career since he loves it so; now, therefore, be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby  congratulate Dr. David Vanderpool on
2-14     his selection as the recipient of the 1999 Max Cole Leadership
2-15     Award; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-17     him as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
