1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
 1-3     recognizing Foley Provenzano, who was recently selected by the
 1-4     Prevent Blindness, Texas Gulf Coast Branch, to receive the Person
 1-5     of Vision Award; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, A native of Houston, he was born on October 30, 1934,
 1-7     the son of Joe and Jennie Provenzano; Foley had two brothers,
 1-8     Joe Vincent and Paul; Joe is deceased, and Paul, blinded by
 1-9     glaucoma at an early age, is a successful author; and
1-10           WHEREAS, Beginning his higher education at Rice University
1-11     in 1952, Foley worked for Union Carbide in the summers, thereby
1-12     starting his notable career with the company; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Foley Provenzano met Patricia Snook in 1955, and
1-14     they were married; their marriage was blessed with six children
1-15     who have brought great joy to their lives; and
1-16           WHEREAS, When Foley completed his education, he chose to
1-17     stay with Union Carbide; eventually he became plant manager and
1-18     had a good and enjoyable career, and he is retired now; and
1-19           WHEREAS, An active civic leader, Mr. Provenzano has made
1-20     significant contributions to his community and his profession; he
1-21     is past president of the Mainland Communities United Way Campaign
1-22     for Galveston County and a member of the Texas Taxpayers Research
1-23     Association; and
1-24           WHEREAS, Mr. Provenzano is a member of the American Institute
 2-1     of Chemical Engineers, the Houston Business Roundtable Committee,
 2-2     the Development and Advisory Council of the University of Houston
 2-3     at Clear Lake, and the Advisory Council of the George R. Brown
 2-4     School of Engineering at Rice University; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, Gifted and dynamic, he serves on the Texas
 2-6     Chemical Council subcommittee on Community Awareness and
 2-7     Emergency Response; a board member of the Texas Council on
 2-8     Economic Education, he is also on the board of the Texas
 2-9     Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce and the
2-10     Taxpayers Research Council of Galveston County; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Perhaps the greatest success which Mr. Provenzano
2-12     has enjoyed has been as a devoted husband and father; of their
2-13     six children, five have degrees from the University of Houston,
2-14     and Foley and Pat are quite close to all of their children; now,
2-15     therefore, be it
2-16           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-17     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate Foley Provenzano on his
2-18     selection as winner of the Person of Vision Award; and, be it
2-19     further
2-20           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-21     him as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the
2-22     Texas Senate.
