1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 66 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Charles Morris 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-7 family of Charles "Lefty" Morris in mourning his death on 1-8 January 13, 1999, at the age of 58; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Charles Morris was born on March 27, 1940, in 1-10 Midland, Texas; he was dubbed "Lefty" by his friends in 1-11 Big Spring, where he graduated from Big Spring High School; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, Lefty graduated in 1963 from Texas Christian 1-14 University, where he was a valued member of Delta Tau Delta 1-15 fraternity and the Student Congress; because Lefty believed 1-16 so strongly in the democratic process, he became a lawyer, 1-17 graduating from The University of Texas School of Law; while 1-18 in law school, he was named to the Honor Council and was a 1-19 representative to the American Law Student Association and a 1-20 prime mover in the Young Democrats; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Lefty Morris was admitted to the bar in 1967 and 1-22 became Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law, which he 1-23 practiced as a member of the law firm, Morris, Craven and Sulak, 1-24 in Austin, Texas; many honors were bestowed on Lefty because of 2-1 his integrity, drive, and dedication to the practice of law; and 2-2 WHEREAS, During his career, he was a member of the 2-3 State Bar of Texas and served on the Board of Governors of 2-4 The Association of Trial Lawyers of America from 1984 to 1987; 2-5 since 1987, he was named every year in the publication, The Best 2-6 Lawyers of America; Lefty served as a Director of the Texas 2-7 Trial Lawyers Association and as president of the organization 2-8 in 1993; in addition to his many affiliations and honors, Lefty 2-9 was valued in his profession as a speaker and as the author of 2-10 Handling Workmen's Compensation Cases in Texas; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The sum of his professional interests and 2-12 accomplishments made Lefty Morris a "lawyer's lawyer," as he 2-13 was known by the members of the bar; however, he was also 2-14 equally dedicated to the interests of the Austin community, 2-15 which he served as a member of the West Rim Neighborhood 2-16 Association and as a member of the Board of Directors of 2-17 Saint Stephen's School; and 2-18 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he 2-19 gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, 2-20 and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; 2-21 and 2-22 WHEREAS, Lefty Morris was a devoted husband and father, 2-23 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever 2-24 by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-25 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-26 76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 3-1 family of Lefty Morris: his wife, Judy; his children, Mark 3-2 and Manda; his mother, Vera; and his sister, Gini Sayles; 3-3 and, be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-5 the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 3-6 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do 3-7 so in memory of Charles "Lefty" Morris. 3-8 Barrientos 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 President of the Senate 3-11 I hereby certify that the above 3-12 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-13 on January 25, 1999, by a rising vote. 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Secretary of the Senate 3-16 ______________________________________ 3-17 Member, Texas Senate
