 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 67
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing the third biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse
 1-5     event, which is being held in the Capitol Extension auditorium
 1-6     February 1-2, 1999; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Capitol Schoolhouse event gives students and
 1-8     teachers from across the state the opportunity to demonstrate how
 1-9     technology is used in their schools and to provide information to
1-10     legislators and state leaders on how these technologies improve
1-11     the learning process; and
1-12           WHEREAS, The third biennial Capitol Schoolhouse event is
1-13     being sponsored by Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund, Texas
1-14     Education Agency, Apple Computer, Incorporated, the Internet
1-15     Schoolhouse, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, V-Tech, and the
1-16     General Services Commission; students and teachers from school
1-17     districts across the state have been invited to participate in an
1-18     on-line school day to showcase current technology and the benefits
1-19     of computers as educational tools; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The Schoolhouse activities include technology
1-21     demonstrations and presentations by students, a tour of the
1-22     Capitol, observation of Texas Senate and House of Representatives
1-23     meetings, interviews with state officials, and work on school
1-24     projects and assignments; students will collaborate on a Texas
 2-1     history project that will be published electronically on the
 2-2     Internet; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Texas is one of the leading states in providing
 2-4     financial support for educational technology, and Texas schools
 2-5     spend more than a quarter of a billion dollars every year to plan
 2-6     for and implement technology in our public schools; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The third biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event
 2-8     provides an excellent opportunity for legislators and the public
 2-9     to observe firsthand how students are utilizing and integrating
2-10     technology in learning, and how technology in the public schools
2-11     today is helping to prepare the children of Texas for the 21st
2-12     century; now, therefore, be it
2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-14     76th Legislature, hereby commend the sponsors of the third biennial
2-15     Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event on providing the state with this
2-16     invaluable educational experience; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
2-18     honor of the third biennial Texas Capitol Schoolhouse event as an
2-19     expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
