 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 69
 1-3           WHEREAS, Children's Advocacy Day is a day of commitment
 1-4     to children, a celebration, and a day of community renewal; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Children's Advocacy Day is sponsored by state
 1-6     and local organizations that together represent thousands of
 1-7     Texans from every walk of life; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, All Texans are invited to participate in the
 1-9     event to affirm our state's commitment to assuring the future
1-10     of our children by providing the best possible environment for
1-11     their development; and
1-12           WHEREAS, On Children's Advocacy Day citizens will
1-13     commit themselves to positive personal steps as families and
1-14     communities to do more to improve the quality of children's
1-15     lives:  their health, safety, school readiness, education,
1-16     and future; and
1-17           WHEREAS, The special day is an opportunity to challenge
1-18     ourselves as well as religious, cultural, business, and government
1-19     leaders to work harder to improve children's lives in communities
1-20     throughout the country; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Every day babies are born into poverty and
1-22     children die from abuse or neglect; and
1-23           WHEREAS, Every day children are killed by firearms,
1-24     commit suicide, are homicide victims, and are arrested for crimes;
 2-1     and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Our children are our state's future and their
 2-3     well-being is of concern to all our citizens; the strength of the
 2-4     state depends on the ability of our future leaders at every level
 2-5     to guide our state and nation on the path that was laid by the
 2-6     founding fathers; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, To recapture the spirit of our nation's
 2-8     democratic principles and to uphold the moral standards that
 2-9     have shaped the greatness of America requires the effort of
2-10     everyone; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby recognize Children's Advocacy Day
2-13     on January 27, 1999, as a day for all Texans to work together to
2-14     protect our children and to provide a nurturing and wholesome
2-15     environment for them; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-17     prepared as an expression of the Senate's commitment to the
2-18     children of Texas.
