 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing Sergeant Major Wilbert L. Jenkins, who is retiring
 1-5     on February 11, 1999, after more than 42 years of loyal service
 1-6     in the Texas Army National Guard; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Sergeant Jenkins began his exceptional military
 1-8     career when he enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard on
 1-9     August 22, 1956; since that time, he has served in various
1-10     assignments with the 49th Armored Division, the 36th Infantry
1-11     Division, and for the last 15 years, the Headquarters State Area
1-12     Command; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Sergeant Jenkins
1-14     consistently strived for excellence and volunteered for extra
1-15     assignments; he supported the implementation of new programs
1-16     to increase the effectiveness of his units and looked out for
1-17     the welfare of his fellow Guard personnel; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Sergeant Jenkins is noted for his professional
1-19     skill and extensive knowledge of supply and logistics procedures,
1-20     and his expertise on operations and training techniques
1-21     contributed greatly to the effectiveness of his units; and
1-22           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,
1-23     Sergeant Jenkins has consistently demonstrated his love of
1-24     our country and has dedicated himself to protecting our
 2-1     nation's ideals, security, and safety; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, A man of valor and deep patriotism,
 2-3     Sergeant Jenkins is a role model for young people across
 2-4     our state, and he deserves recognition for his outstanding
 2-5     military career; now, therefore, be it
 2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-7     76th Legislature, hereby commend Sergeant Major Wilbert L. Jenkins
 2-8     for his invaluable contributions to the Texas Army National Guard
 2-9     and extend best wishes to him for the retirement years ahead; and,
2-10     be it further
2-11           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-12     Sergeant Jenkins as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
