 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 89
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Brazoria County area will miss the wisdom and
 1-4     expertise of Waverly Jefferson, Jr., County Extension Agent-Urban
 1-5     Development, Program Leader, who is retiring, and the Texas Senate
 1-6     would like to recognize him; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The leadership skills and style of Mr. Jefferson
 1-8     have increased performance and overall area awareness of Extension
 1-9     programs; and
1-10           WHEREAS, When the Brazosport Navigation District donated land
1-11     for a greenbelt, Mr. Jefferson organized a group of parents and
1-12     city and school officials to develop the greenbelt; trees and
1-13     shrubs were planted to shield the school from noise; the area was
1-14     named the Waverly Jefferson Arboretum; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Dedicated to progress in his area, Mr. Jefferson
1-16     organized an interested group to beautify the Brazoria County Fair
1-17     Grounds; as a result, this distinguished gentleman was asked to be
1-18     a discussion speaker on his experience in beautification for the
1-19     Texas County Fair Association Annual Conference; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Developing training for Master Gardeners, County
1-21     Agent Jefferson conducted many workshops, and more than 6,000
1-22     county residents have been reached through his efforts; and
1-23           WHEREAS, One who seeks to repay his community for his
1-24     success, Waverly Jefferson is a board member of the Angleton-Danbury
 2-1     Hospital and the Brazoria County Red Cross, and he is chairman of
 2-2     the Brazoria County Museum Board; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, A member of the Angleton Crime Prevention Task Force,
 2-4     Waverly Jefferson is also a board member of the Bay Area Boy Scouts
 2-5     and the Salvation Army; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, The winner of the City of Angleton Outstanding
 2-7     Citizen Award in 1996, he was honored by the Texas County
 2-8     Agricultural Agents Association for Distinguished Service in 1995;
 2-9     such an outstanding citizen is certainly worthy of legislative
2-10     recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby commend Waverly Jefferson, Jr., for his
2-13     achievements during his career and wish him well in his retirement;
2-14     and, be it further
2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-16     him as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the
2-17     Texas Senate.
