 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize Friendship Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, Texas,
 1-5     on the grand occasion of its 50th anniversary, which is being
 1-6     celebrated in February of 1999; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The Friendship Baptist Church was organized
 1-8     in February of 1949 and located on West Point Road; it began
 1-9     to grow significantly in 1955 under the leadership of the
1-10     Reverend John H. Mosley; in 1960, while pastored by the
1-11     Reverend V. L. Houston, the church was moved to a new building
1-12     at 4724 Bush Avenue; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Over the years, the Friendship Baptist Church has
1-14     ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of innumerable
1-15     Christians; the church has expanded its facilities on several
1-16     occasions and added such ministries as a summer day camp program,
1-17     a bus ministry, and a program to feed the hungry; and
1-18           WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its
1-19     pastors, and the outstanding leadership of its current pastor,
1-20     Reverend James Miller, the church has continued to grow and to
1-21     undertake many worthy projects within the community; and
1-22           WHEREAS, Since Reverend Miller joined the church, a
1-23     number of new programs have been established, including
1-24     Bible Study, Birth-month Clubs, Mid-Week Church Assembly,
 2-1     a Singles Ministry, a Young Adult Fellowship, and a L-A-M-B-S
 2-2     Fold Department; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, The church has become an invaluable source of
 2-4     strength for its members during their hardships and
 2-5     in times of bereavement; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, The celebration of its 50th anniversary is an
 2-7     expression of the church's enduring commitment to its holy
 2-8     mission and its dedication to tradition and unity among
 2-9     Christians; now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy
2-12     and members of Friendship Baptist Church on the jubilant
2-13     occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it further
2-14           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-15     the church as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate.
