1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 118 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas commends 1-4 Jack Christie for his outstanding contribution to the young 1-5 people of Texas through his untiring work as the chairman of 1-6 the State Board of Education; and 1-7 WHEREAS, He has twice been appointed to that post, first 1-8 in 1995, and again in 1997, by Governor George W. Bush and 1-9 was elected to his position on the board by the citizens of 1-10 Fort Bend and Harris counties in 1990, 1992, and 1996; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Jack Christie continues his work on the State 1-12 Board of Education's Committee on Planning but has previously 1-13 served the board on its Finance and Long-Range Planning 1-14 committees; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Leadership comes naturally to this talented and 1-16 resourceful man, and this quality has resulted in his election 1-17 as president of the student bodies of Texas City High School 1-18 and of Texas Chiropractic College, where he received his Doctor 1-19 of Chiropractic degree, and in his serving on the State Board 1-20 of Chiropractic Examiners and on the board of directors of 1-21 Big Brothers and the Spring Branch-Memorial Chamber of 1-22 Commerce; and 1-23 WHEREAS, His desire to contribute to public education 1-24 began when he was elected to serve for six years on the Spring 2-1 Branch Independent School District Board of Trustees and was 2-2 honored, as well, by his fellow board members when they elected 2-3 him to serve as secretary of the board and later as its president; 2-4 a further honor came to Dr. Christie when, during his term as 2-5 president of the school board, the Spring Branch Independent School 2-6 District received the award for Outstanding School Board 2-7 in Texas; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Texas A&M University's Administrative Leadership 2-9 Institute presented Jack Christie with its Golden Deeds Award 2-10 in November for his distinguished leadership and contribution 2-11 to education in Texas; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Jack Christie is also a devoted husband to his 2-13 wife, Meliane, and a loving father to John, Katherine, and 2-14 Patrick; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 76th Legislature, hereby extend its grateful appreciation 2-17 to Jack Christie for his selfless contribution to Texas as 2-18 the chairman of the State Board of Education; and, be it 2-19 further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-21 Dr. Christie as a heartfelt expression of gratitude and high 2-22 regard of the Texas Senate. 2-23 Nelson 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 President of the Senate 2-26 I hereby certify that the above 2-27 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-28 on February 1, 1999. 2-29 ______________________________________ 3-1 Secretary of the Senate 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
