 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 120
 1-3           WHEREAS, On March 3, 1999, many proud residents of
 1-4     Seagoville will be in Austin to celebrate Seagoville Day at the
 1-5     State Capitol, in recognition of this illustrious town and its
 1-6     contributions to the State of Texas; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, Founded in 1876, the town was originally named
 1-8     Seago after T. K. Seago, the settler who cleared his land of
 1-9     timber and established the community's first store; the first
1-10     official plat of the city was recorded in the Dallas County Deed
1-11     Records in 1883, and in 1910 the post office changed the town's
1-12     name to Seagoville to avoid confusion with a similarly named
1-13     community; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Located in the rich Blackland Prairie region
1-15     near the Trinity River, Seago was ideally suited for agricultural
1-16     development, and cotton and alfalfa were the two most prominent
1-17     crops; today the economy is more diversified, but residents and
1-18     businesses alike may still take advantage of the area's
1-19     reasonable land prices; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The inhabitants of this bustling little town are
1-21     proud of their small town atmosphere, yet the community's proximity
1-22     to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex enables residents and visitors
1-23     to have easy access to a wide range of big city cultural and sports
1-24     activities; thus, the community truly embodies the best aspects of
 2-1     both rural and urban life; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, Seagoville also boasts a variety of outdoor
 2-3     recreational opportunities at its numerous parks, tennis
 2-4     facilities, and senior citizens' and youth centers; nearby
 2-5     Lake Ray Hubbard offers nearly 23,000 acres for fishing, water
 2-6     sports, or just relaxation, while nature lovers can learn more
 2-7     about the area at the Post Oak Preserve and Environmental Center;
 2-8     and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Each October, the community celebrates the
2-10     migration of the beautiful monarch butterfly with Seagofest,
2-11     a fun-filled event for the entire family that provides a welcome
2-12     opportunity for residents to pay tribute to their shared history
2-13     and culture; and
2-14           WHEREAS, The people of Seagoville take justifiable pride
2-15     in their community and in the unique role the town and its citizens
2-16     have played in the development of the Lone Star State, and the
2-17     Texas Senate is proud to join them in the commemoration of
2-18     Seagoville Day; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-20     76th Legislature, hereby recognize March 3, 1999, as Seagoville Day
2-21     at the State Capitol and join the citizens of that town in paying
2-22     tribute to one of Texas' finest communities; and, be it further
2-23           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
2-24     prepared for the City of Seagoville as a memento of this special
2-25     day and as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
