1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 121 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas congratulates 1-4 Andrew Montgomery for his selfless act of heroism at the scene 1-5 of a major accident on September 7, 1998; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A 14-year-old Eagle Scout, he was en route with his 1-7 parents, Ann and Bill Montgomery, to their home in Houston, Texas, 1-8 after volunteering their time to work on the new American 1-9 Legion project, Medal of Honor Park and Museum, which was 1-10 under construction near New Orleans, Louisiana, when they 1-11 encountered the scene of a collision on Interstate Highway 10 1-12 near Vidor, Texas; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A driving rain and poor visibility had caused a 1-14 three-vehicle collision when a tanker truck, a Lexus sedan, and 1-15 a Suburban collided in the median of the highway and proceeded 1-16 into the ditch between the east and west lanes of Interstate 1-17 Highway 10; the Lexus sedan was crushed between the two larger 1-18 vehicles, resulting in its 12-year-old backseat passenger, 1-19 Jennifer Farria, being thrown backwards through the rear window; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, Heedless to the danger posed to their own 1-22 lives by the likelihood of an explosion resulting from the 1-23 combustible fumes of the wrecked vehicles, the courageous 1-24 family, the mother and father who are Red Cross volunteers 2-1 and young Andrew who is also versed in Red Cross expertise 2-2 and Eagle Scout training, proceeded to efficiently control 2-3 the wreck scene and to save the life of Jennifer Farria, who 2-4 was quickly bleeding to death from severe head wounds; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The three moved quickly to turn off the ignitions 2-6 of the three vehicles and proceeded to staunch Jennifer's wounds, 2-7 keep her warm, restore her breathing and pulse to normal levels, 2-8 and to comfort her until the Emergency Medical team arrived 15 2-9 minutes later; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Andrew Montgomery's amazing maturity and deliberate 2-11 action in the time of danger reflect his extensive training, his 2-12 selfless heroism, and a depth of compassion for the suffering of 2-13 others; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 76th Legislature, hereby commend Andrew Montgomery for his 2-16 undaunted courage in the face of danger; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 Andrew Montgomery as an expression of gratitude and high regard 2-19 of the Texas Senate for his act of valor. 2-20 Lindsay 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the above 2-24 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-25 on February 2, 1999. 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Secretary of the Senate 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Member, Texas Senate
