1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 122 1-3 WHEREAS, The North Harris Montgomery Community College 1-4 District is a publicly supported comprehensive community college 1-5 system, providing to individuals, businesses, and the community 1-6 at large quality educational opportunities leading toward 1-7 productive employment, responsible citizenship, and intellectual, 1-8 cultural, and economic development; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The district was created as North Harris County 1-10 College by the voters of the Aldine, Humble, and Spring independent 1-11 school districts, and it opened its doors to 613 students in 1973; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, The boundaries of the district have expanded as a 1-14 result of successful citizen elections to include the school 1-15 districts of New Caney in 1981, Tomball in 1982, Conroe in 1991, 1-16 Splendora in 1996, Willis in 1996, and Klein in 1998, thereby 1-17 creating a college district encompassing 1,400 square miles and 1-18 serving over one million residents; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The district has constructed four state-of-the-art 1-20 comprehensive campuses, North Harris College, Kingwood College, 1-21 Tomball College, and Montgomery College, five off-campus sites, 1-22 and the innovative University Center, thus providing convenient 1-23 access to higher education and job training opportunities for all 1-24 its constituents; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Founding President 2-2 Emeritus Mr. W. W. Thorne, Chancellor Emeritus Dr. Joe A. Airola, 2-3 Chancellor Dr. John E.
