1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 127 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 The Honorable Daniel James Kubiak 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins 1-7 the citizens of Rockdale, Milam County, and the entire 1-8 State of Texas in mourning the untimely loss of longtime 1-9 Representative Daniel James Kubiak, who died August 30, 1998; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born in Reagan on 1-12 March 19, 1938; he attended Marlin High School, where he 1-13 was class president and lettered in football, baseball, 1-14 basketball, and track; he earned his bachelor's degree from 1-15 The University of Texas at Austin in business administration; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, Working as a teacher and coach in Vernon and 1-18 Cypress-Fairbanks schools, Dan Kubiak was designated Teacher of 1-19 the Year while pursuing his master's degree in education from 1-20 Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls; he later earned 1-21 his doctorate in education from The University of Texas at Austin; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, Elected to the House of Representatives in 1968, 1-24 Representative Kubiak served his constituents superbly for over 2-1 20 years while becoming an expert on many subjects, including 2-2 budget matters; he was a steadfast proponent of educational issues 2-3 and causes which involved state employees; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Throughout his legislative career, he was lauded 2-5 for his fine leadership and devoted public service by many 2-6 organizations; in 1973, this distinguished representative was 2-7 selected as one of the "Ten Best Legislators" by Texas Monthly 2-8 magazine; and 2-9 WHEREAS, In 1981, he was chosen as Man of the Year in 2-10 Agriculture by the Texas County Agents Association, and he 2-11 was designated Legislator of the Year by the Texas 4-H Alumni, 2-12 the Texas Public Employees Association and State Employees, and 2-13 the Texas Classroom Teachers Association; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Widely acknowledged as an outstanding leader and one 2-15 who could rise above partisan issues, he actively worked to promote 2-16 compromise and cooperation in the Texas House of Representatives; 2-17 and 2-18 WHEREAS, In the past, Representative Kubiak had served on 2-19 vital legislative committees in his capacity as a house member; 2-20 he had led committees on higher and public education and 2-21 subcommittees of the agriculture and livestock committee; and 2-22 WHEREAS, The Honorable Dan Kubiak had lately spearheaded the 2-23 effort to avert the Y2K computer problems of the state and raise 2-24 awareness of the difficulties involved; and 2-25 WHEREAS, Representative Kubiak was serving as a member of the 2-26 appropriations and redistricting committees and as vice chairman 3-1 of the licensing and administration committees at the time of his 3-2 death; and 3-3 WHEREAS, A highly acclaimed statesman and politician, 3-4 Dan Kubiak demonstrated his command of the legislative process 3-5 throughout his illustrious career, and he enjoyed the greatest 3-6 respect of his colleagues in the legislature; his legacy of 3-7 activism and service to the citizens of the State of Texas will 3-8 endure for many years; now, therefore, be it 3-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-10 76th Legislature, hereby pay homage to the lifetime of 3-11 selfless service of Representative Dan Kubiak and extend 3-12 sincere condolences to the members of his family: his daughter, 3-13 Alyssa Lea Kubiak; his sons, Kelly Dan Kubiak and Kody Earl Kubiak; 3-14 his parents, John T. and Connie Kubiak; his brothers, 3-15 Leonard P. Kubiak, L. B.
