1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 137 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure 1-4 in recognizing Maria Guadalupe Ramos for her selection as the 1-5 1999 Bilingual Teacher of the Year by the National Association 1-6 for Bilingual Education; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Sponsored by Scholastic, Incorporated, a leader 1-8 in the publishing of educational materials, candidates are judged 1-9 on the quality of their professional development, educational 1-10 philosophy, performance, and community service; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Nominees are submitted by the states, and the 1-12 award goes to a teacher who teaches prekindergarten through 1-13 12th grade, has demonstrated her ability to inspire limited-English 1-14 proficient students from varied backgrounds to excel, and has 1-15 distinguished herself as a leader; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A teacher of a multiage dual language class of 1-17 first through third grades at Harris Elementary School, she 1-18 is also the program administrator for the Reading One-One 1-19 Tutorial Program at her school; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Serving on the Parent-Teacher Assocation and the 1-21 School District Curriculum Council, Lupe Ramos has shown her 1-22 devotion to her community by her actions; and 1-23 WHEREAS, One of the most inspiring things about her 1-24 innovative approach to bilingual education is how well the 2-1 different students in her classes relate to each other, even 2-2 in different languages; they are excited about being bilingual 2-3 and value each other's culture and abilities; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Recognized as an excellent instructor, Lupe Ramos is 2-5 a veteran educator with 20 years of experience in the classroom; and 2-6 WHEREAS, An exceptionally resourceful and dedicated teacher, 2-7 Lupe Ramos is an enthusiastic educator with a warm sense of humor 2-8 who has distinguished herself in her profession; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Her students have greatly benefitted from her 2-10 skillful teaching methods, her sincere concern for the individual, 2-11 and her wise counsel and encouragement; and 2-12 WHEREAS, As recipient of this honor, Lupe Ramos received a 2-13 professional development scholarship, an educational trip to Mexico, 2-14 and a scholarship for study in Spain; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 76th Legislature, hereby commend Maria Guadalupe Ramos for 2-17 her superb contributions to the educational system of 2-18 Texas and extend best wishes to her for many rewarding years 2-19 ahead; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-21 her as an expression of highest esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-22 Barrientos 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 President of the Senate 2-25 I hereby certify that the above 2-26 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-27 on February 4, 1999. 2-28 ______________________________________ 2-29 Secretary of the Senate 2-30 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
