1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 150 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-4 recognize Trinity United Methodist Church of Houston, Texas, 1-5 which was originally organized 133 years ago on February 3, 1866; 1-6 and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Trinity United Methodist Church has its roots 1-8 in the Methodist Episcopal Church South, a small frame building 1-9 built on the northwest corner of Milam in 1851; following the 1-10 Civil War, a meeting was held for the purpose of organizing a 1-11 church under the guidance of the preacher, Elias Dibble, and 1-12 the deed was filed on February 3, 1866; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The frame building was subsequently moved to the 1-14 property bounded by Travis, Bell, Clay, and Milam streets, and 1-15 plans were made to name the building Trinity United Methodist 1-16 Church; thereafter, the church had to be rebuilt several times 1-17 due to destruction by the great storm of 1900 and a fire in 1946; 1-18 the church was erected on Holman and Live Oak streets in 1951; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Over the years, the Trinity United Methodist Church 1-20 has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of innumerable 1-21 Christians; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its 1-23 pastors and the outstanding leadership of its current pastor, 1-24 the church has continued to grow and to undertake many worthy 2-1 projects within the community; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The Trinity United Methodist Church has become 2-3 an invaluable source of strength for its members during their 2-4 hardships and in times of bereavement; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The many years of loyal service to the Houston 2-6 community exemplify the church's enduring commitment to its 2-7 holy mission and its dedication to tradition and unity among 2-8 Christians; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 76th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and 2-11 members of Trinity United Methodist Church on the occasion of 2-12 its 133rd anniversary; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-14 the church as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-15 Ellis 2-16 ______________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the above 2-19 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-20 on February 8, 1999. 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
