1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 167
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 1-3     recognize the YMCAs of Texas, which have over 1.2 million active
 1-4     participants and members; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Texas YMCAs have been vital parts of their
 1-6     communities for over 100 years; they strive to develop strong
 1-7     children, strong families, and strong communities; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, The mission of the YMCAs of Texas is to put
 1-9     Christian principles into practice through programs that build
1-10     healthy spirits, minds, and bodies; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The wide range of activities the YMCAs have
1-12     generated are designed to develop the body, promote spiritual
1-13     awareness, and appeal to the minds of those it serves; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The YMCAs of Texas are best remembered for their
1-15     child care, youth sports, camping, aquatics, and adult wellness
1-16     programs, which are intended to nurture the healthy development
1-17     of children, strengthen families, and encourage positive behavior
1-18     in teenagers; and
1-19           WHEREAS, As a result, Texas communities are becoming
1-20     healthier and safer places to live and work; now, therefore,
1-21     be it
1-22           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
1-23     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate the YMCAs of Texas and
1-24     declare November 10, 1999, as YMCA Day at the State Capitol; and,
 2-1     be it further
 2-2           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 2-3     the YMCAs of Texas as an expression of the high regard of the
 2-4     Texas Senate.
