 1-2                                  In Memory
 1-3                                     of
 1-4                             Petra Garcia Torres
 1-5           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas mourns the loss
 1-6     of Petra Garcia Torres, who died January 16, 1999, at the age
 1-7     of 84; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, Born February 17, 1914, in Gonzales, Texas,
 1-9     Petra Garcia married Hilario Torres, Sr., who preceded her
1-10     in death; and
1-11           WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Petra Torres was dedicated to
1-12     her work as a homemaker and was respected in the community for her
1-13     many accomplishments; and
1-14           WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
1-15     she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth,
1-16     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
1-17           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Petra attended
1-18     Saint Patrick's Catholic Church and was a member of the
1-19     Guadalupanas, the Sacred Heart Society, and the Altar Society;
1-20     and
1-21           WHEREAS, Petra Torres was a devoted wife, mother, and
1-22     grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured
1-23     forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
1-24           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 2-1     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
 2-2     the bereaved family of Petra Garcia Torres:  her sons and
 2-3     daughters-in-law, Ignacio and Sofia Torres, Hilario Torres, Jr.,
 2-4     and Anna Torres, Norberto and Connie Torres, and Reynaldo and
 2-5     Roxanne Torres; her daughters and son-in-law, Angelica and
 2-6     Luis Pena and San Juanita Torres; her sister, Eugenia Sandoval
 2-7     and her 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and, be
 2-8     it further
 2-9           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-10     the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
2-11     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
2-12     it do so in memory of Petra Garcia Torres.
