1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride 1-3 in recognizing the Lubbock Division of the American Heart 1-4 Association and joins its members in proclaiming Saturday, 1-5 February 13, 1999, as Lubbock Heart Day; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The month of February is National Heart Month, 1-7 and the Lubbock Division of the American Heart Association has 1-8 chosen February 13 as the day to focus on making the public 1-9 aware of the dangers of cardiovascular disease; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Cardiovascular disease remains the state's 1-11 number-one killer; it claimed the lives of 57,050 Texas 1-12 residents in 1997 and causes two of every five deaths in 1-13 Texas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The volunteers in the Lubbock Division of the 1-15 American Heart Association work tirelessly to fulfill the 1-16 association's mission, which is to reduce death and disability 1-17 due to cardiovascular disease and stroke; and 1-18 WHEREAS, These volunteers are dedicated to their work 1-19 and to providing information and support to the community; they 1-20 devote much of their time to raising local private-sector funds 1-21 which are vital to the public/private partnership that works to 1-22 reduce heart disease; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-24 76th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Lubbock 2-1 Division of the American Heart Association on their hard work 2-2 and contributions to the community and encourage all area 2-3 citizens to recognize February 13 as Lubbock Heart Day; and, be 2-4 it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared 2-6 in honor of Lubbock Heart Day. 2-7 Duncan 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on February 9, 1999. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
