 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 170
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great
 1-4     pleasure in welcoming the students from Buenos Aires, Argentina,
 1-5     who are participating in the Fundacion Universitaria del Rio de
 1-6     la Plata program at the Lyndon Baines Johnson School of Public
 1-7     Affairs; and
 1-8           WHEREAS, A private, nonprofit institution created in 1970 by
 1-9     a group of young university graduates, the Fundacion Universitaria
1-10     del Rio de la Plata is directed toward preparing graduate students
1-11     of great promise for national leadership and toward widening their
1-12     perspective on national and international affairs; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The activities of FURP have been generously
1-14     supported by private corporations and institutions, including
1-15     American firms who have interests in Argentina; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Since its establishment, FURP has organized
1-17     seminars in the United States that have provided hundreds of
1-18     young university students and graduates from all over Argentina
1-19     with the opportunity to further their knowledge and insight; and
1-20           WHEREAS, The 16 outstanding students who are participating
1-21     in the 1999 program at the Lyndon Baines Johnson School of
1-22     Public Affairs have been selected on the basis of their potential
1-23     as young leaders to be members of the Fundacion Universitaria
1-24     del Rio de la Plata, thus allowing them to direct their abilities
 2-1     toward better community service; and
 2-2           WHEREAS, It is a distinct honor for the Texas Senate to
 2-3     recognize these young men and women who will become the future
 2-4     leaders of their country:  group leader Pablo Andres Mera and
 2-5     group members Leandro Acosta, Juan Ignacio Aicega, Nicolas Baez,
 2-6     Miguel Raul Andino, Manuel Arias, Guido Giacosa Fernandez,
 2-7     Jose del Tronco, Fernando Alfredo Dopazo, Sebastian Lew,
 2-8     Maria Pilar Giribone, Ana Ines Langer, Carla Alessandrini,
 2-9     Marisa Miodosky, Silvina Murphy, and Gaston Remy; now, therefore,
2-10     be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby commend these dedicated individuals
2-13     who are broadening their education in order to better understand
2-14     the problems of their society and to prepare themselves for their
2-15     roles as national leaders; and, be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to
2-17     them as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
