1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 171
 1-2           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Community Development
 1-3     Corporations is a nonprofit trade association that is committed
 1-4     to community and economic development throughout the State of
 1-5     Texas; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, The association is hosting its Third Annual
 1-7     Community Development Conference, "Building Sustainable
 1-8     Communities," February 8 through 10, 1999, in Austin, Texas; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Community Development
1-10     Corporations' conference will host a statewide coalition of
1-11     nonprofit, community-based development organizations whose primary
1-12     focus centers on affordable housing, economic development, and
1-13     community building; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The association has been duly recognized as a
1-15     leader in the community development industry, and its effort and
1-16     determination are appreciated by members of the Texas Senate; and
1-17           WHEREAS, In furtherance of these efforts the Texas
1-18     Association of Community Development Corporations supports
1-19     Stand Up for Rural America, a national campaign that seeks to
1-20     identify, describe, and involve rural community-based development
1-21     organizations, secure additional federal resources to build their
1-22     capacity, secure additional banking and philanthropic resources, and
1-23     create a broad-based network of rural community-based development
1-24     organizations; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, In promoting greater awareness for the needs of
 2-2     rural Texans, the Texas Association of Community Development
 2-3     Corporations and Stand Up for Rural America are recognizing a
 2-4     Stand Up for Rural Texas Day; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, The Stand Up for Rural Texas Day is a day when
 2-6     members of the community development community and members of the
 2-7     Texas Senate recognize the need and importance for more awareness and
 2-8     investment in rural Texas community-based development corporations;
 2-9     now, therefore, be it
2-10           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11     76th Legislature, hereby recognize and support Stand Up for Rural
2-12     Texas Day, as a day when members of the community development
2-13     industry and members of the Texas Senate join in recognizing the
2-14     need for and importance of more awareness of and investment in
2-15     rural community-based development in Texas and around the nation.
