1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-4 joining the residents of Collin County in proclaiming 1-5 Wednesday, February 24, 1999, as Collin County Day; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Organized in 1846 and carved from Fannin County, 1-7 Collin County was named for the pioneer settler Collin McKinney, 1-8 a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence; the county is 1-9 located in Northeast Texas and was originally Caddo Indian country; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, Known for its rich, black clay soil, Collin County 1-12 is a source of timber and is a major agricultural area that 1-13 produces wheat, hay, sorghum, and cotton; beef cattle, horses, 1-14 and the dairy industry are income producers for the area; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Over the years, industrial development and 1-16 population growth in the county have been managed with care in 1-17 order to preserve natural habitats and historical sites; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Many of the area's old homes have been restored, 1-19 and residents and tourists enjoy visiting the Old Collin County 1-20 Post Office, the McKinney Historical District, and the Heard 1-21 Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The county offers attractive scenery and excellent 1-23 recreational opportunities; fishing and water sports are popular 1-24 at Lake Lavon, and McKinney, the county seat, is host to a trade 2-1 center, a fashion outlet, museums, the Bolin Wildlife Exhibit, 2-2 and Wilson Creek Park; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Plano is one of the state's fastest growing 2-4 cities; the city is home to various manufacturing headquarters 2-5 and is a growing commercial and financial center; it has an 2-6 award-winning park system, a farmers' market, and a premier 2-7 54-hole miniature golf course; host to a balloon festival each 2-8 September, the city has become known as the "Balloon Capital 2-9 of Texas"; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Collin County Day is an opportunity for friends and 2-11 families to gather together and celebrate the county's history and 2-12 its many assets, as well as that special working partnership that 2-13 the county enjoys with its cities, school districts, and local 2-14 businesses; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 76th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people 2-17 of Collin County for their preservation of the county's history 2-18 and natural amenities and extend best wishes to them for a joyous 2-19 Collin County Day; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-21 residents of Collin County as an expression of esteem from the 2-22 Texas Senate. 2-23 Shapiro, Haywood 2-24 Armbrister Gallegos Nixon 2-25 Barrientos Harris Ogden 2-26 Bernsen Jackson Ratliff 2-27 Bivins Lindsay Shapleigh 2-28 Brown Lucio Sibley 2-29 Cain Luna Truan 2-30 Carona Madla Wentworth 3-1 Duncan Moncrief West 3-2 Ellis Nelson Whitmire 3-3 Fraser Zaffirini 3-4 Perry, President of the Senate 3-5 ______________________________________ 3-6 President of the Senate 3-7 I hereby certify that the above 3-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-9 on February 24, 1999. 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Member, Texas Senate
