 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 187
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
 1-4     recognize Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Sanders on the special occasion of
 1-5     their 60th anniversary on February 21, 1999, and on the momentous
 1-6     occasion of Mr. Sanders's 80th birthday on the same date; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, J. R. Sanders was born on February 21, 1919, and he
 1-8     and Ethelyn Sanders were married on his birthday in 1939 in
 1-9     Los Fresnos, Texas; and
1-10           WHEREAS, The world has changed considerably during the years
1-11     of their marriage, yet Mr. and Mrs. Sanders have continued to
1-12     embrace traditional family and moral values; and
1-13           WHEREAS, The marriage of the anniversary couple was blessed
1-14     with five children; the family lived in Conroe and Houston before
1-15     moving to their home in Cat Spring; and
1-16           WHEREAS, Friends from all over the country and family
1-17     members of Mr. and Mrs. Sanders will gather at the home of the
1-18     anniversary couple for a party on February 21, 1999, to celebrate
1-19     the warmth and caring of this remarkable couple and to celebrate
1-20     J. R.'s 80th birthday; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Dedicated to their community, both have been active
1-22     in charitable works; and
1-23           WHEREAS, J. R. Sanders served as a 32nd degree Mason for 39
1-24     years and was Worshipful Master in the San Felipe Masonic Lodge;
 2-1     Ethelyn Sanders has been a member of the Eastern Star for 35 years
 2-2     and was Worthy Matron in 1989 and 1990; and
 2-3           WHEREAS, Both Mr. and Mrs. Sanders are members of the Home
 2-4     Extension Service, and J. R. has also worked with the Boy Scouts
 2-5     of America as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, J. R. and Ethelyn have shared many pleasant times
 2-7     and cherished memories, and the commitment they have shown
 2-8     to each other and their communities is a source of great pride
 2-9     to their friends and family members; they are certainly worthy
2-10     of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby congratulate J. R. Sanders on
2-13     his 80th birthday and extend sincere best wishes to
2-14     Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Sanders on their 60th anniversary; and,
2-15     be it further
2-16           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this
2-17     distinguished couple as an expression of the highest esteem of the
2-18     Texas Senate.
