 1-4                                     of
 1-5                          Jacques Patrick Darrouzet
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas mourns the loss
 1-7     of Jacques Patrick Darrouzet of Austin, Texas, who died on
 1-8     January 24, 1999, at the age of 77; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, After he graduated from Saint Edward's University in
1-10     1943, J. P. joined the United States Navy and served for three
1-11     years in World War II; and
1-12           WHEREAS, Upon his return home after the war, J. P. entered
1-13     The University of Texas School of Law, received his law degree
1-14     in 1951, and became an expert in Canon Law because of his devout
1-15     religious beliefs and interest in the history of the Catholic
1-16     Church; and
1-17           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,
1-18     Mr. Darrouzet was respected for his many accomplishments and
1-19     was a beloved leader in his community; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Mr. Darrouzet gave freely of his time to secular
1-21     and religious pursuits by serving on the Board of Directors of
1-22     the Child and Family Service and as a delegate to the Austin
1-23     Community Council, as well as by serving as a trustee for Saint
1-24     Edward's University, president of the Catholic Speaker's Guild,
 2-1     co-chairman of the Austin Chapter of the National Conference of
 2-2     Christians and Jews, and as the executive officer of the
 2-3     Association of Texas Diocesan Attorneys; and
 2-4           WHEREAS, In 1963, Pope John XXIII showed his appreciation
 2-5     for J. P.'s dedication to the Catholic Church when he awarded
 2-6     him the medal Pro Ecclesia et Pontiface; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
 2-8     he gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his humor,
 2-9     wisdom, faith, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by
2-10     those who knew him; and
2-11           WHEREAS, Jacques Darrouzet was a loving and devoted
2-12     husband for 50 years to his wife, Maura, and he leaves behind
2-13     memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
2-14     friends; now, therefore, be it
2-15           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-16     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-17     family of Jacques Patrick Darrouzet:  his wife, the former
2-18     Maura Glennon of Birr, County Offaly, Ireland; and his daughter,
2-19     Deirdre Maura Darrouzet; and, be it further
2-20           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-21     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
2-22     from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
2-23     day, it do so in memory of Jacques Darrouzet.
