 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 193
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
 1-4     recognizing the Dallas Chapter of the Bronze Eagles Flying Club
 1-5     of Texas on the occasion of the 1st Annual Bronze Eagles Youth
 1-6     in Aviation Benefit, which takes place March 6, 1999; and
 1-7           WHEREAS, The benefit provides an opportunity to honor the
 1-8     eight inner-city youths who have been chosen to participate in
 1-9     a week-long aviation camp sponsored by the Bronze Eagles and
1-10     Clark Manor Memorial Chapel; and
1-11           WHEREAS, The youths were selected to participate in the
1-12     camp based on their interest, enthusiasm, and academic achievements,
1-13     and they are being honored for their decision to experience the
1-14     challenge of learning to fly; and
1-15           WHEREAS, For one week, these youths will experience the joys
1-16     of aviation and will be provided a solid foundation in aviation
1-17     by instruction from certified flight instructors; in addition to
1-18     experiencing flying, students can be eligible for solo flight
1-19     after 20 hours of flight time; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Graduates of the program will continue to
1-21     participate in character and ethics based programs through the
1-22     Bronze Eagles and Clark Manor Memorial Chapel High Adventure
1-23     Explorer Post; and
1-24           WHEREAS, The benefit on March 6 will feature Leslie Morris,
 2-1     the founder and national president of Black Pilots of America,
 2-2     as the keynote speaker; Mr. Morris learned to fly after graduating
 2-3     from high school and later became a full Journeyman Radar
 2-4     Controller; he joined Eastern Airlines as a flight engineer and
 2-5     was promoted to Manager of Flying in 1979; his exemplary career
 2-6     is an inspiration for young people throughout our country; and
 2-7           WHEREAS, The Youth in Aviation Benefit will allow the
 2-8     members of the Bronze Eagles, community leaders, family, and
 2-9     friends to gather in a show of support for the first class of
2-10     youth aviators; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Dallas Chapter of the Bronze
2-13     Eagles Flying Club of Texas on its invaluable contributions to the
2-14     youths of our state and extend best wishes to its members for a
2-15     highly successful 1st Annual Bronze Eagles Youth in Aviation
2-16     Benefit; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-18     the Dallas Chapter as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
