 1-4                                     of
 1-5                           Raymond Nichols Storey
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas mourns the loss
 1-7     of Raymond Nichols Storey, who died January 26, 1999, at the age
 1-8     of 66; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Raymond Storey received his bachelor of science
1-10     degree and master of science degree from Fisk University in
1-11     Nashville, Tennessee, and utilized his vision and intellectual
1-12     curiosity to embark on a successful career as a research chemist
1-13     and physicist; and
1-14           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,
1-15     Mr. Storey was respected for his many accomplishments and was
1-16     a beloved leader in his community; and
1-17           WHEREAS, Through his published scientific research and
1-18     patents in the area of infrared spectrascopy, Raymond Storey
1-19     achieved recognition and distinguished himself at Bell Telephone
1-20     Laboratories, where he worked for more than 20 years before his
1-21     retirement in 1986; in addition, he was a supervisor of technical
1-22     employment, an instructor of science and mathematics for the
1-23     Montclair Adult Education Department, and a senior member of the
1-24     American Chemistry Society; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Other than his professional work, Raymond also took
 2-2     pleasure in spending time on community activities and was a member
 2-3     of the Orange Board of Education, the Orange Budget Advisory
 2-4     Committee, Omega Psi Phi, and the Optimist Club; and
 2-5           WHEREAS, After his retirement from Bell Telephone
 2-6     Laboratories, Raymond became an enthusiastic member and presiding
 2-7     partner in the Perspectives Investment Club; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Raymond Storey was a loving husband and father,
 2-9     and his warmth, giving nature, and intellectual curiosity will
2-10     be missed by his family and all who knew him; now, therefore,
2-11     be it
2-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-13     76th Legislature, hereby extend heartfelt condolences to the
2-14     family of Raymond Nichols Storey: his wife, Muriel; his children,
2-15     Bruce Storey, David Perkins, Juanita Carter, Holly Newman, and
2-16     Murray Storey; his sisters, Delores Campbell and Beverly James;
2-17     and his eight grandchildren; and, be it further
2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-19     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-20     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-21     in memory of Raymond Nichols Storey.
