 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 200
 1-3           WHEREAS, Snyder, Texas, The Land of the White Buffalo, is
 1-4     located in Scurry County, deep in the heart of West Texas; and
 1-5           WHEREAS, Proud of its Western heritage and pioneer spirit,
 1-6     Snyder is the county seat of Scurry County, named by the
 1-7     Texas Legislature in 1876 for the Confederate war hero,
 1-8     William R. Scurry; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Even though Snyder reveres its past, it looks
1-10     forward to the future and an expanding economy; and
1-11           WHEREAS, Known as a leader and pioneer throughout the
1-12     textile industry, Arnold Lorber of Los Angeles, California, has
1-13     chosen Snyder as the home of his projected five-phase
1-14     manufacturing facility; and
1-15           WHEREAS, Having recently completed Phase I, Lorber
1-16     Industries of Texas plans to begin Phase II in the spring of
1-17     1999; by purchasing cotton throughout the State of Texas,
1-18     this new industry will have a major impact on the economy of
1-19     the Snyder area and on the State of Texas; and
1-20           WHEREAS, Investing millions of dollars in land
1-21     development, construction payroll, and on-site and off-site
1-22     training has led to the formation of a working partnership
1-23     between Lorber Industries of Texas and Western Texas College
1-24     of Snyder; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, Through its newly formed Workforce Development
 2-2     Program, Western Texas College has begun an exciting new role
 2-3     by providing specialized training; the college has been serving
 2-4     the Snyder area since 1971, and it offers a full curriculum of
 2-5     academic and vocational education; and
 2-6           WHEREAS, The Workforce Development Program is made
 2-7     possible through the Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas
 2-8     Department of Economic Development; and
 2-9           WHEREAS, Snyder is proud to be the location for the
2-10     Price Daniel Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice;
2-11     and
2-12           WHEREAS, Always a source of pride for its scholastic
2-13     program, the Snyder Independent School System has nationally
2-14     recognized athletic and achievement programs as well as
2-15     excellent high school drama and vocational agricultural
2-16     departments; and
2-17           WHEREAS, The continued growth and progress of
2-18     Snyder, Texas, is ensured by the superb cooperation of both
2-19     the city and county governments; now, therefore, be it
2-20           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-21     76th Legislature, hereby declare Wednesday, February 24, 1999,
2-22     as Snyder Day in Texas, and Snyder, Texas, as The Land of the
2-23     White Buffalo; and, be it further
2-24           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as
2-25     an expression of the high regard and esteem of the Texas Senate.
