1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 209 1-3 WHEREAS, Terrell State Hospital will sorely miss the wisdom 1-4 and expertise of Sarah Kegerreis, who is retiring from her position 1-5 as Director for Community Relations; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Longview, Texas, on August 7, 1946, Sarah 1-7 graduated from Eldorado High School in Arkansas; she earned her 1-8 bachelor of science degree in vocational home economics from 1-9 East Texas State University in 1968; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Beginning her volunteer career at Big Spring State 1-11 Hospital, she was Assistant Coordinator from 1968 through 1969; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Sarah Kegerreis came to her present position as 1-13 Director of Volunteer Services at Terrell State Hospital in 1-14 January, 1970; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The next year, she married her husband, John, and 1-16 they were blessed with one son, James, who is studying criminal 1-17 justice at Trinity Valley Community College; and 1-18 WHEREAS, During the time she was with Terrell State Hospital, 1-19 Sarah helped with many different projects: she was involved in 1-20 coordinating the capital improvement project which used grant 1-21 funding together with private donations for a swimming pool; 1-22 she helped create the Lake Tawakoni camp facility, Camp Wildwood, 1-23 and an addition to All Faiths Chapel; and she developed an 1-24 Adopt-a-Patient program, pairing individual clients with 2-1 volunteers; and 2-2 WHEREAS, As coordinator of fund-raising efforts to equip 2-3 and furnish the Martha Allen Family Center, she was an unqualified 2-4 success; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Active in the Association for Volunteer 2-6 Administration since 1970, Sarah Kegerreis has been Region VI 2-7 Chairman, Vice President of Constituent Affairs, and Nominating 2-8 Committee Chairman; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The recipient of many honors and awards, 2-10 Mrs. Kegerreis was a finalist for the Preston Harrison Award 2-11 and was 1990 recipient of the Terrell Rotary Clubs Community 2-12 Service Award; in 1991, she received the Showcase Award from the 2-13 Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, and in 2-14 1994, she was a nominee for the Governor's Volunteer Leadership 2-15 Award; certainly this lady is worthy of legislative recognition; 2-16 now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 76th Legislature, hereby commend Sarah Kegerreis for her 2-19 outstanding service on behalf of Terrell State Hospital; and, 2-20 be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-22 her as a memento of this auspicious occasion and as an expression 2-23 of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-24 Cain 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 President of the Senate 2-27 I hereby certify that the above 2-28 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-1 on February 15, 1999. 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Secretary of the Senate 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Member, Texas Senate
