 1-4                                     of
 1-5                        Dr. David Winslow Hines, Sr.
 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
 1-7     of Austin in mourning the loss of Dr. David Winslow Hines, Sr.,
 1-8     who died March 8, 1998, at the age of 72; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Born August 29, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois,
1-10     David Hines attended Loyola Academy and Saint Norbert College
1-11     and graduated from Northwestern Medical School; he completed a
1-12     residency in internal medicine at the Veterans' Administration
1-13     Research Hospital in Chicago in 1958; and
1-14           WHEREAS, Dr. Hines married Ann Irwin on August 22, 1953;
1-15     in 1958, the couple moved to Dallas where he worked with Lederle
1-16     Laboratories as a clinical investigator; and
1-17           WHEREAS, He moved to Austin in 1973 and joined
1-18     Dr. T. R. McElhenney in the private practice of allergy; Dr. Hines
1-19     had his own private practice in the field of allergy from 1978 to
1-20     1993; and
1-21           WHEREAS, Dr. Hines was dedicated to his work as a physician
1-22     and was beloved by his patients and colleagues; he was a member of
1-23     the American College of Allergy, the Travis County Medical Society,
1-24     and the Austin Allergy Society; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman with an
 2-2     engaging personality, Dr. Hines was respected by the citizens of
 2-3     Austin and by the medical community for his many accomplishments;
 2-4     and
 2-5           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he
 2-6     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and
 2-7     valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, David Hines was a devoted husband, father, and
 2-9     grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
2-10     forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-12     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
2-13     bereaved family of Dr. David Winslow Hines, Sr.:  his wife,
2-14     Ann Irwin Hines; his children, David Hines, Tim Hines, Bob Hines,
2-15     Jon Hines, Andy Hines, Ann Kathryn Scott, and Peter Hines; and his
2-16     12 grandchildren; and, be it further
2-17           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
2-18     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
2-19     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
2-20     in memory of David Hines, Sr.
