 1-8           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of
 1-9     Zapata, Texas, and residents of the Mexican states in mourning
1-10     the loss of three of the members of the celebrated band,
1-11     Intocable, who died January 31, 1999, in a tragic accident and
1-12     in wishing the remaining members a speedy recovery from the
1-13     physical and emotional pain of the accident; and
1-14           WHEREAS, The enormously popular Tejano music group was en
1-15     route to the Monterrey airport to take a flight for a performance
1-16     that night; and
1-17           WHEREAS, The deceased were:  Jose Angel "Pepe" Farias
1-18     of Monterrey, who was the master of ceremonies and percussionist;
1-19     the band's new road manager, Jose Angel Gonzalez of Houston; and
1-20     Silvestre Rodriguez of McAllen, who was the bass player and singer;
1-21     and
1-22           WHEREAS, The remaining members are:  lead singer Ricky Munoz;
1-23     drummer Rene Martinez; bass player Sergio Serna; and conga player
1-24     Danny Sanchez; and
 2-1           WHEREAS, A popular Tejano band, Intocable was founded in 1994
 2-2     in Zapata and was known as Ricky Munoz y Los Tejanos; soon the name
 2-3     was changed to Intocable when a new style was found; this produced
 2-4     a unique Norteno-Tejano sound which brought the band fame and a
 2-5     bright future; in five years, the group had earned several platinum
 2-6     albums, including a double platinum recently for their most recent
 2-7     CD called "Intocable"; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Known as a closely knit group of musicians, the band
 2-9     members were like family to each other; their stirring Tejano and
2-10     Norteno music has made them wildly successful in South Texas and
2-11     Northern Mexico; and
2-12           WHEREAS, Intocable was the winner of numerous Texas Tejano
2-13     music awards, and the band's songs became regulars at the top of
2-14     the charts with such selections as "Eres Mi Droga" and "Vivir Sin
2-15     Ellas"; and
2-16           WHEREAS, The death of these three young members of the
2-17     stellar singing group is an incalculable loss to the musical world
2-18     as well as a loss to their families; now, therefore, be it
2-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-20     76th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the families
2-21     of the members of Intocable; and, be it further
2-22           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
2-23     expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when
2-24     the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jose Angel Farias,
2-25     Jose Angel Gonzalez, and Silvestre Rodriguez.
