1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 223 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in 1-3 recognizing former Texas State Representative Keith Oakley for his 1-4 many achievements which have benefitted the State of Texas; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A fifth-generation Texan from Terrell, Keith comes 1-6 from a pioneer family; he graduated from Terrell High School and 1-7 went to college at Southwest Texas State University; he edited the 1-8 school paper, majored in journalism, and minored in agriculture; 1-9 and 1-10 WHEREAS, After his graduation, Keith began his career in 1-11 politics working for Agriculture Commissioner Reagan Brown; at a 1-12 later date, Keith was chief of staff for State Senator Ted Lyon; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, Elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1-15 1985, where he has served with distinction, Keith represented 1-16 District 4 in Hunt and Kaufman counties; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Representative Oakley shared his expertise by 1-18 serving on several committees in the House of Representatives; 1-19 he was selected to be on the State Affairs Committee, 1-20 Environmental Regulation Committee, Appropriations Committee, 1-21 and the Recreational Resources Committee; and 1-22 WHEREAS, When the speaker chose Keith Oakley to chair the 1-23 House Public Safety Committee, he became the youngest chair to 1-24 ever serve; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Because of his expert leadership, he was selected 2-2 chair of the interim committee to review the water safety laws 2-3 of Texas; due to the information gathered by that committee, 2-4 Representative Oakley wrote the Texas Water Safety Act, which 2-5 was successfully passed in 1997; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Keith and his wife, Norie, live in his hometown of 2-7 Terrell and enjoy life with their sons, Conner and Garrett; now, 2-8 therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 76th Legislature, hereby commend the career of service of 2-11 Keith Oakley and applaud his substantial contributions to his 2-12 constituents and to the citizens of Texas; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-14 him as an expression of the highest regard and esteem of the 2-15 Texas Senate. 2-16 Cain 2-17 ______________________________________ 2-18 President of the Senate 2-19 I hereby certify that the above 2-20 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-21 on February 16, 1999. 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Secretary of the Senate 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Member, Texas Senate
