1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 243 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 1-4 residents of Tarrant County and the Coalition of Tarrant County 1-5 Chambers of Commerce in proclaiming Wednesday, February 24, 1999, 1-6 Tarrant County Day; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A county of rural charm and natural beauty, 1-8 Tarrant County is a popular area for vacationing and its cities 1-9 are well known for their museums and the preservation of historic 1-10 sites; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In its ranch lands, museums, art, and recreational 1-12 centers, Tarrant County still retains today the flavor of the 1-13 Old West, and the county is home to some of the state's most 1-14 outstanding cultural attractions, including the Kimbell Art 1-15 Museum, the Amon G. Carter Museum, and the Fort Worth Museum 1-16 of Science and History; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Known to many as "Where the West Begins," 1-18 Tarrant County is famous for its tourism centers such as the 1-19 Fort Worth Stockyards and Cattleman's Museum and the nationally 1-20 known Six Flags Over Texas; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Named for General Edward H. Tarrant and created in 1-22 1849, Tarrant County is the fourth most populous county in Texas; 1-23 headquartered in the county are such corporate giants as Tandy 1-24 Corporation/Radio Shack, American Airlines, and Burlington 2-1 Northern; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The county seat, Fort Worth, is culturally one of 2-3 Texas' major cities and has a network of vast green parks and 2-4 surrounding lakes; the city's Amon G. Carter Museum contains a 2-5 fabulous collection of western art featuring permanent collections 2-6 of Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell; and 2-7 WHEREAS, The county owes much of its economic stability and 2-8 quality of life to the leadership provided by the Coalition of 2-9 Tarrant County Chambers of Commerce, which represents more than 2-10 7,000 of the county's business organizations; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The coalition brings together 23 chambers of 2-12 commerce from throughout Tarrant County to support public policy 2-13 initiatives which meet the needs of employers, their customers, 2-14 employees, and employees' families; and 2-15 WHEREAS, The coalition is noted for its success in building 2-16 productive partnerships between the business community and local, 2-17 state, and federal governments, thus providing for continued 2-18 positive growth in business development and job opportunities; and 2-19 WHEREAS, The dedication of the members and officers of the 2-20 Coalition of Tarrant County Chambers of Commerce has played 2-21 a major role in the county's vitality, and the residents of 2-22 Tarrant County have taken care to preserve the amenities of 2-23 their county and its natural assets in the face of urban growth 2-24 and industrial development; now, therefore, be it 2-25 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-26 76th Legislature, hereby express appreciation to the people 3-1 of Tarrant County on their many contributions to our state and 3-2 extend best wishes to them for a joyous Tarrant County Day; and, 3-3 be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-5 the residents of Tarrant County as a token of esteem from the 3-6 Texas Senate. 3-7 Nelson, Harris, Moncrief 3-8 Sibley, West 3-9 ______________________________ _______________________________ 3-10 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 3-11 ______________________________ _______________________________ 3-12 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 3-13 ______________________________ 3-14 Member, Texas Senate 3-15 _______________________________ 3-16 President of the Senate 3-17 I hereby certify that the 3-18 above Resolution was adopted by 3-19 the Senate on February 18, 1999. 3-20 _______________________________ 3-21 Secretary of the Senate
