 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 244
 1-3           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate is pleased to recognize the members
 1-4     of the Duncanville Panthers football team on winning the 1998 5A
 1-5     Division I state championship in December; and
 1-6           WHEREAS, Winning Duncanville's first football championship,
 1-7     the Panthers defeated the Converse Judson Rockets 24-21 in a
 1-8     hard-fought game in the Astrodome; and
 1-9           WHEREAS, Coming from behind with the score at 21-7, the
1-10     Panthers rose to the challenge and each player worked his hardest
1-11     to win the game; even Coach Alpert felt that his team outplayed
1-12     itself; and
1-13           WHEREAS, Overcoming a formidable Rockets team, the Panthers
1-14     showed themselves completely capable of overcoming any obstacle;
1-15     and
1-16           WHEREAS, Deserving of recognition, the talented members of
1-17     the Panthers team, Captain Johnson, Adam Wooten, Jerry Scales,
1-18     Michael Eaton, Terrance Dean, Sidney Oliver, Richard Whiddon,
1-19     Jason Yonce, Ken Moua, Zane Reeves, Alvin Mosby, Clayton Bryant,
1-20     Damien Fuller, Melvin Blunson, Brandon Kajihiro, Chris Lopez,
1-21     Sherman Steptoe, Gerard Davis, Chris Davis, Rishone Evans,
1-22     Roy Hall, Vegas McNeil, Andre Ruffin, Mark Walker, Eric Richardson,
1-23     Orlando Medlock, Michael Dudley, Jeremy Hurd, Kionne Franklin,
1-24     Frank Munoz, Charles Birdow, Ashford Lee, Jason Cokes, Drew Moffett,
 2-1     Kenneth Williams, Jamil Tucker, Miles Britt, Mark West, Ricky Smith,
 2-2     Byron Johnson, Kyle Yudizky, Stephen Tenpenny, Jonathon Evans,
 2-3     Jason Collins, DeWaylon Johnson, Jose Carranza, Cotis Martin,
 2-4     Daniel Clickard, Nick Howard, Ricky Stapleton, Cody Burch,
 2-5     Kevin Young, Richard Evans, Kasey Cheshier, Jerry Nixon,
 2-6     Michael Herd, Travis Hale, Marcus Cooks, and Laurence James,
 2-7     exhibited awesome talent and drive; and
 2-8           WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership of their coach,
 2-9     Bob Alpert, and assistant coaches, Shawn Lewis, Zane Reeves,
2-10     Lee Bruderer, Tom Strode, Dan Schreiber, Mark Howeth, Jim Randall,
2-11     David Haas, Billy Anderson, and Cedric Love, the team, its
2-12     trainers, Dave Burton, Kim Carrington, Kelly Raye, Laura Kyle,
2-13     Alan Reid, Larry Haney, Mike Garcia, Jeanette Dover, and
2-14     Julie Torre, and its managers, Michael Jones and Michael Lopez,
2-15     deserve to be proud of their performance; and
2-16           WHEREAS, The Panthers' team unity, exceptional skills, and
2-17     respect for the highest ideals of American sportsmanship have
2-18     brought honor to the school and the community; and
2-19           WHEREAS, The Panthers' capture of the state title has clearly
2-20     demonstrated the team's winning spirit, discipline, and courage;
2-21     now, therefore, be it
2-22           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-23     76th Legislature, hereby commend the Duncanville Panthers football
2-24     team for winning the state championship; and, be it further
2-25           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-26     Duncanville High School as an expression of esteem from the
 3-1     Texas Senate.
