1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 249 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the KLLL Radio Station in Lubbock for its many years 1-4 of outstanding community service benefitting the citizens of the 1-5 South Plains; and 1-6 WHEREAS, A finalist for the Country Music Association 1-7 Station of the Year in 1989, KLLL has been sponsoring community 1-8 events to benefit charitable organizations for over 40 years, and 1-9 its latest effort to benefit the Children's Miracle Network takes 1-10 place February 23 of this year; and 1-11 WHEREAS, This highly respected radio station has helped 1-12 raise money for the Special Olympics and has donated compact 1-13 discs and T-shirts to numerous organizations; the station broke 1-14 all records for blood donation with its 18th annual KLLL Country 1-15 Christmas Blood Drive, and last year the station raised over 1,500 1-16 units in a six-day period; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Other causes in which KLLL has played a major role 1-18 include the Make A Wish Foundation and fundraising for MDA; KLLL 1-19 contributed money to citizens who wore seat belts when the seat-belt 1-20 law was passed and raised money for an elderly woman who was robbed 1-21 in her home; the station also raised funds to help a mother whose 1-22 daughter was kidnapped; and 1-23 WHEREAS, On February 23, KLLL will run its next charitable 1-24 event to raise awareness regarding the medical services that are 2-1 available on the South Plains; the funds will be directed to the 2-2 University Medical Center to benefit the Children's Miracle Network; 2-3 now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-5 76th Legislature, hereby commend KLLL on its many years of 2-6 generosity and inspirational fundraising on behalf of needy 2-7 citizens and extend best wishes to this exceptional radio station 2-8 for a successful event on behalf of the Children's Miracle Network; 2-9 and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for KLLL 2-11 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-12 Duncan 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on February 18, 1999. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
